Making in the UK
At Cwene, we believe that true luxury lies not just in beautiful design, but in the values behind the craftsmanship. That's why each of our caftans is proudly made in the UK, using natural fabrics that are primarily designer surplus from renowned fashion houses.
Many of the fabrics we use - particularly silks - have already travelled vast distances before they arrive in Europe, often originating in regions like Asia and India where they are grown, processed and dyed.
The conventional fashion model would then see these fabrics sent back in the same direction to be turned into garments at scale. It's a process that prioritises cost over conscience: the more you produce, the cheaper it becomes. This mass-production mindset is a major contributor to the staggering 73% of clothing waste that ends up in landfill.
Fast fashion giants like Zara, Primark, Shein, H&M and many many more thrive on producing large quantities at low costs, often in manufacturing hubs across China, Pakistan, and India. But this comes at a price: a significant carbon footprint and an alarming statistic - up to 40% of all clothes produced are never even worn.
We take a different approach.
For us, it's not about making more - it's about making better.
Our caftans are meticulously crafted and hand-finished in London, where we uphold principles of fair pay and ethical production. By choosing to manufacture locally, we reduce our carbon footprint and maintain a close connection to our production team. Regular visits to the workshop ensure our standards are upheld, and every garment reflects the care and attention it deserves.
We know that producing in smaller quantities and focusing on quality over quantity means our caftans may cost a little more. But for us, that’s a price worth paying. Each piece is designed to be treasured, worn, and loved for years to come - not tossed aside with the changing of the seasons.
By choosing Cwene, you’re investing in craftsmanship and timeless style. Because true luxury should feel good - not just on your skin, but in your heart too.
