The production journey that garments go through is often hidden behind smoke, and many, many mirrors. Here at Cwene we pride ourselves on being as transparent and ethical as possible and are proud to tell you how our beautiful caftans are made.
Meticulously crafted and hand-finished in London, our Caftans are made by a small, all female team of highly skilled seamstresses. The studio upholds principles of fair pay and ethical production which we consider essential when it comes to making clothing. There is always the option of getting everything made overseas (as many do), which would be much more cost effective, however, the cost to the planet would be considerably increased.
It might seem like a small decision, but we very much take the view that if everyone made small, meaningful changes and choices, that the impact would be indescribable.
By choosing local production, we minimise our carbon footprint and can regularly visit the site and meet the wonderful women who create our beautiful garments. For us, this takes precedence over the bottom line.
After all, nobody really needs more ‘stuff.’ What we need is better stuff that lasts longer….
